The Stanford Prison Experiment

BBC documentary on the Stanford Prison Experiment. If you don't know what the experiment is. In 1971 psychologist Philip Zimbardo wanted to see how people would respond in social extremes. Students would be chosen. On a coin flip, some would become guards others would be prisoners in a simulated Prison created on the school's campus.



The experiment is an insight that Authority and environment has a very strong effect on one's behavior. how people will take on and become the roles they are presented or told they are to be in an environment.
It reminds me of the experiment where they take brown and blue-eyed children for an experiment. They tell the blue-eyed children they are less than children with brown eyes. And tell the brown-eyed children they are less than children with blue eyes. If one's society says, acts or treats one in a certain way, treats one without dignity then soon negative and destructive behavior will happen.

Crumpling America is a 2009 History Channel Documentary about the ageing and failing infrastructure of the United States of America. The show is still relevant because most of the issues brought up have not been attended too and have also become worse.

Try http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/mars/ for information or episode. This is how channels like National Geographic should present scientific ideas to the public. There should be more a scripted story intermingled with presenters giving scientific facts. I hope National Geographic does more of this.

Watching this I imagine what if we made it mandatory for every company to create divisions like Stage 2. These division would be dedicated to different sciences but always on helping make life better for the poor and humanity. The world would be a different place very quickly.

This documentary is a "what if" humankind hand to leave the Earth due to some outside catastrophe. This has some very interesting ideas. The people and scientist who make these shows always seem to have a very high esteem for people. I say that because I don't think this sort of thing would happen as smoothly as they do in these kind of shows. I see a great deal of fighting, physical, verbal, and political. But to it's credit this show does not shy away from the truth of money, violence, and people's irrationality.

Most archaeologist don't accept or believe mankind had civilizations at that point in history. Finding this site has changed the way many believe civilization developed and when.

In this documentary they talk to the people that created the first nuclear molten salt reactor. They talk about how their research was dismissed, forgotten and underutilized.

I am not a fan of nuclear power because of the waste. If I understand how this nuclear system works it would create far less waste than the systems in place. You can't create nuclear weapons from this system. The waste can be used to make power as well. And if the system is left the core won't explode like the conventional systems. So I am open to this system over the ones we have now.

This documentary goes through the steps that would be needed to create a viable colony on the ocean floor. If you ever wonder about what it would take to colonize the oceans. This is a good documentary to watch.

The History of California Water Wars

These are documentaries about water use in the southern California area. The problems with the drought are nothing new. It is a repeat of history. I have watched these news programs where politicians and experts say no one could have seen the drought or the problems associated with it coming. These people are either liars, don't know what they are talking about, or are attempting to placate the masses and business.
The Water Wars in Southern California have been happening off and on for about a hundred years, give or take. The fight between Cities, agriculture, and small communities is nothing new. More corporations, especially bottle water corporations have now joined the fray. What is new is less snow-pack and lakes to exploit. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a quick solution that doesn't take the affect on future generation into account anymore. Even though that seems to be the answer most still give.
